It's the season in Australian cycling when criterium racing dominates the landscape. And after watching two events this past weekend I've come to the conclusion this form of racing can be quite spectacular if covered on TV properly.

SUVELO INAUGURAL OPEN RACE DAY

After more than 20 years of reporting on cycling and 10 years since "throwing the leg over" for the first time, choosing SUVelo's inaugural Open Race held at Heffron Park on February 26 to make my racing debut was quite an fun experience.

All I can say is it could be the start of a brilliant new career...

Where did I finish in D Grade? Well, you can probably guess the answer to that question.

Mike Tomalaris - June 2011 PDF Print Email

MikeIf you're a fan of late-night television in July (I gather all of us at SUVelo certainly fit into that category), I'm assuming the days cannot come quickly enough for the start of the Tour de France.
Staying up late for 21 days watching every stage of the world's biggest bike race from the comfort of your lounge room is the perfect excuse to miss the early-morning wake-up call the following day for the mandatory training ride, especially when temperatures drop to just above freezing.
In fact many people have told me that it's in July when they prefer to dust off the wind-trainer and sit in front of the idiot box whilst watching the Tour at the same time pretending to be in the peloton rubbing shoulders with some of the sport's big names.
Now, please own up - is that you?
